If you have never heard of or ever seen a furled leader don't feel bad, many fly fisherman never knew about them, simply because it is a thing of the past. Nearly forgotten, but recently rediscovered, as of now you can find them from a few select merchants that offer them. Enabling you to get your hands on one! Keep in mind that not all furled leaders are created equal. The furled leaders we offer are made by hand and offer the angler wishing to use one, a chance to use a leader using age old techniques from century's past blended with today's advancements in mono filament for a unmatched and superior product. Quite simply said, after trying one, you will wonder how you ever got along with out it. The Advantages of a Furled leader: Our Smoky Mountains furled leader offers you exceptional improvements in casting performance and a delicate presentation not possible with a ordinary tapered "mono" or braided leaders. Try this one when you receive your furled leader, remove it from the package and unwrap it, give it a little stretch (all the annoying little loops in regular tapered mono leaders disappear simply with a stretch) can't do that with your store bought leaders! Grab it by the butt end and simply give it a little cast, notice how it flat out lays the line out. Now imagine what this will do on the end of your fly line. Our leaders will greatly improve your accuracy and your presentation from beginner to expert alike. Awesome! There are three things most important to all fly fisherman. 1. Presentation 2. Accuracy 3. Stealth (Our furled leaders will help you achieve the first 2 objectives, the 3rd one is up to you!)If an angler can achieve these three things under most fishing conditions he or she is well on their way to becoming a successful fisherman regardless of fly selection. It has been said that it doesn't matter what the pattern is, it's all in the operator. Our furled leaders offer amazing accuracy enabling the beginner to build confidence quickly. In the hands of a veteran fly fisherman he will wonder how it eluded him all this time. In addition to the above mentioned improvements to your casting and presentation these furled leaders also provide unmatched overstrike protection. Throw those shock tippets away! Hold the butt end in one hand and the fine tip in the other, outstretch your arms and feel the stretch in this leader. Really aids in landing fish at the critical last few feet when lots of pressure is applied to land it. With other types of leaders, your tippet will usually part ways with that trophy when that much pressure is applied. Furled leaders absorb alot of that energy enabling you to land that fish of a lifetime. Okay, how do I get my furled leader? We recommend at the small loop to tie in a 8 inch section of 8lb. test with a improved clinch knot (to preserve the integrity of the loop) The more you clip near the loop the more apt you will be to cut it eventually! Then tie on a 8 to 10 inch piece of 4x tippet or (about 6lb.test) Then about a 18 inches of your favorite tippet. Usually 5x (about 4.5 lb.test) These leaders will last through many hours of fishing. I usually have to replace mine about once a year and my leaders don't get very many days off.Smoky Mountains On The Fly Guide Service & Instruction William R.
