Surgeons Loop

 

This is the easiest connection of the fly line and leader junction with the use of a leader loop. you may use the surgeons loop to connect your leader to the leader loop installed in the end of your fly line. If you do not have a leader loop you can easily purchase one at your favorite fly shop or several retailers on line for a few dollars. In a pinch you can double over the last few inches of your fly line and secure it with a couple of nail/tube knots and trimming the excess to make your own leader loop. which would be perfectly fine for most freshwater situations.
